This policy explains what data MetaGenius AI collects when you install our Shopify SEO app, why we collect it, how we protect it, and what rights you have over it. Plain English. No legalese where we can avoid it.
1. Who we are
MetaGenius AI ("we", "us", "the app") is an AI SEO Shopify app operated by Gautam Rudani, an indie software developer based in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India. We are the data controller for the limited information described below. For privacy questions, email privacy@metagenius-ai-seo.com.
2. Data we collect
When you install MetaGenius AI from the Shopify App Store, we collect only the data needed to deliver the service:
- Store-owner contact info — store URL, store name, email, country, and Shopify owner name (provided by Shopify on install).
- Shop content you choose to optimize — product titles, product descriptions, product images, collection content, blog posts, and content pages. We only read the resources you point the app at.
- Existing meta tags on those resources, so we can avoid overwriting work you've already done.
- App usage data — sets generated, language used, tone preset chosen, plan tier, and feature usage. Used for billing and product improvement.
- Support correspondence — emails you send us and our replies.
We do not read customer data, order data, payment data, or anything outside the SEO-related resources you ask us to process.
3. How we use your data
Strictly to deliver and improve the service:
- Generating AI-written SEO meta titles, meta descriptions, and image alt text for the resources you select.
- Tracking your monthly set usage so plan limits are respected and billing works.
- Responding to support requests and fixing bugs you report.
- Sending essential service emails (billing failures, security issues, major changes to this policy).
We do not sell your data. We do not share it with advertisers. We do not use it to train public AI models.
4. Third-party services
To provide the service we share the minimum data required with these processors:
- Shopify Inc. — for store authentication, embedded admin, and billing. Governed by Shopify's own privacy terms.
- OpenAI — your selected product/collection/blog/page content is sent to OpenAI's API for AI generation. OpenAI's API terms state they do not use API content to train their models. We send only the content you've chosen to optimize.
- Cloud hosting & database — encrypted hosting infrastructure for the app backend and your set-usage records.
- Email provider — for transactional support and billing emails only. No marketing lists.
5. Data storage & security
Data is stored on secure servers with encryption in transit (TLS) and at rest. Access is limited to the founder and the small set of automated systems that run the app. We retain store data while your account is active and for up to 30 days after uninstall, after which it is deleted. Logs containing identifiable data are retained for a maximum of 90 days.
6. International transfers
MetaGenius AI is operated from India. Your data may be processed in India, the United States (OpenAI, hosting), or the European Union depending on the closest infrastructure. By using the app you consent to this transfer. We use standard contractual clauses with vendors where applicable.
7. Your rights — GDPR (EU/UK)
If you are in the European Union or the United Kingdom, you have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you.
- Correct inaccurate data.
- Delete your data ("right to erasure").
- Restrict or object to certain processing.
- Data portability — receive a copy in a structured, machine-readable format.
- Lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

8. Your rights — CCPA (California)
If you are a California resident, the CCPA/CPRA gives you the right to know what personal information we collect, request deletion, and opt out of any "sale" or "sharing" of personal information. We do not sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. To make a CCPA request, email privacy@metagenius-ai-seo.com.
9. Shopify Protected Customer Data
MetaGenius AI does not request, store, or process Shopify "Protected Customer Data" (customer PII, order data, etc.). Our app's Shopify scopes are limited to the read/write SEO content scopes required to read products, collections, blogs, and pages and to write meta tags back. You can review the exact scopes on the Shopify App Store install screen before installing.
10. Cookies on this website
This marketing website uses essential cookies only — for security and to remember your dark/light mode preference. We do not run advertising trackers here.
11. Changes to this policy
If we materially change this policy we will update the effective date above and email merchants on paid plans. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance.
